Nearing the end of chapter one and just wanted to share this paragraph with you.

A snapshot of birth in the 1800-1900’s….

Shocking practices 🙈😬😳

Women strapped to beds, given narcotics & sedation to induce sleep, forceps used routinely to remove babies from the unconscious mother, no memory of the birth, babies removed and the hospital dictating feeding times!

Sounds barbaric and not the empowering experience childbirth should’ve been and once was prior to this time before the medicalisation of birth.

Although some women are still giving birth with medical intervention, arguably not always necessitated (but that’s a discussion for another day 😁) thankfully women have more choice in their births today.

Practices have changed so much for the better thankfully and choice is encouraged and promoted.

Although care in birth and midwifery in a hospital setting has came a long way, we still have a long way to go to improve and normalise the birthing experience and environment for many.
